Treatment of Late Complications Following Implant Placement Associated with Periapical Periodontitis

Artigo

Reports of the occurrence of late complications following implant placement associated with a natural tooth are limited. The infective etiology may be bacteria from periapical lesions around adjacent teeth. This case report demonstrates successful management of a late complication using regenerative surgery with bone graft material and tetracycline at the same time as root canal therapy of the adjacent tooth. The detoxification procedure was performed with tetracycline, and the defect area was grafted with a 4:1 volume ratio combination of deproteinized bovine bone mixed with tetracycline....

Clinical Re-entry and Histologic Evaluation of Periodontal Intrabony Defects Following the Use of Marginal Periosteal Pedicle Graft as an Autogenous Guided Tissue Membrane
Clinical Re-entry and Histologic Evaluation of Periodontal Intrabony Defects Following the Use of Marginal Periosteal Pedicle Graft as an Autogenous Guided Tissue Membrane

Objective: The aim of the present study was to clinically and histologically examine the effects of a marginal periosteal pedicle graft as a biologic guided tissue membrane. Material and methods: Fifteen patients with severe chronic periodontitis participated in this prospective, controlled, blind trial. Each paired periodontal defect was clinically evaluated for nine months. Nine months following therapy at re-entry, samples of the newly formed tissue were harvested from all test and...

Osteoinductive and Osteoprotective Characteristics of Statins
Osteoinductive and Osteoprotective Characteristics of Statins

Background: Statins are widely used agents for lowering cholesterol and reducing the risk for a heart attack. Recent data suggest that statins regulate bone metabolic activity by stimulating new bone formation both in vitro and in vivo. Statins were identified as a potent activator of bone morphogenic protein-2, an important promoter of osteoblastic differentiation. In addition, statins inhibit mevalonate production and isoprenoids required for osteoclastogenesis, which may contribute to...

The Link between Treatment with Bisphosphonates and Osteonecrosis of the Jaws. A Literature Review
The Link between Treatment with Bisphosphonates and Osteonecrosis of the Jaws. A Literature Review

The aim of this presentation is to review the literature concerning the link between drugs called bisphosphonates and the development of a condition called osteonecrosis of the jaws. The bisphosphonates are stable synthetic inorganic pyrophosphate analog drugs that have a high affinity for calcium and are used to treat patients with a variety of pathologies such as cancer and osteoporosis. Some reports linked them as a factor in the development of a condition called bisphosphonate-related...
